Home of the Kilnsey Trout
Kilnsey Trout Farm was established on the Kilnsey Estate in 1978 and is family run to this day.
The Trout Farm is a thriving and modern business, sustainably producing 60 tonnes (90,000) silvery rainbow, blue and brown trout for restocking each year.
The secret to why our location is perfect for growing trout is the pure spring water which feeds not only our trout farm, but our busy fisheries and the two hydro electric units which power our entire site.
Our Farming Process
Over the last couple of years our farm has been fully redeveloped into a showcase farm using Danish ‘Model Farm’ technology to rear fish in an environmentally sustainable way and under the highest welfare conditions.
Our unique Fast-Flow system has been specifically designed to rear extremely healthy and hard fighting fish, in conditions which imitate the young trout’s clean, natural habitat (think mountain streams). We rear batches of 15,000 to 20,000 at a time, which are always hand graded for quality prior to delivery.

Quality Feed
We only use the highest quality feed available, giving our fish a health body shape and deep pink flesh. Our feed supplier was the first in the world to be accredited by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council which is a ‘not for profit’ organisation co-funded by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). This ensures it has been produced in an environmentally and socially responsible way.
Experience and friendly service
With years of experience running our own very successful fly fishing lakes as well as restocking numerous other lakes and reservoirs, we can share our experience on effective stocking schedules as well as practical and management issues to make the most of your fishery.
Reliability and consistency
We know how important it is to receive quality fish at the right size, every time.
As a result a number of our customers have told us that their ticket sales and demand for membership numbers have increased significantly since we started to supply them due to the consistent quality of the fishing and clean taste of the fish.
