Kilnsey can provide individual fly fishing instruction with a professional instructor/coach, for everyone from beginners to more experienced anglers.
For those looking for an introduction to our great sport, private lessons offer an ideal and enjoyable introduction to fly fishing. Should you be more experienced and having trouble getting to grips with double hauling, dealing with windy conditions, presentation casts or even an introduction to Spey casting this can all be covered.
Mark Gambles is our qualified fishing coach here at Kilnsey. With many years of coaching experience, he’s fished here hundreds of times so knows these waters intimately. Please contact him directly to find out prices and availability – his details are at the bottom of this page.

What’s Included
- One-to-one fully guided fly fishing experience
- All equipment provided
- Fishing permit and EA rod licence for the day
- Opportunity to take one fish home (if caught)
- No previous experience necessary
- The coach will tailor the lesson to suit your requirements
- After your session you will be able to cast at a far distance accurately and quickly to rising fish, have a deeper knowledge of the correct flies to use, know how to haul to increase distance and how to catch a good number of fish
- Minimum age 12 years
Mark Gambles is a Level 2 Angling Lead Coach, with a 1st4Sport Qualification (QCF Fly Fishing), which is accredited by the Angling Trust. Mark is the lead coach for all courses that are delivered by Kilnsey Fishery (to find out more about our courses click here).
Whether you are a complete novice interested in starting the sport or a more experienced angler looking to improve your technique, Mark delivers coaching in a friendly, enjoyable and professional manner, which will make your life experience a fun and memorable moment. Tuition can be accommodated for various personal abilities and capabilities.
Additional qualifications: Emergency First Aid Certificate, Enhanced DBS, Safeguarding Protecting Children, Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance.

There’s no finer feeling than when it all comes together and the line flies confidently out behind you, turns in an elegant arc overhead to stretch out straight in front and settle gently on the water.
