Welcome to the latest fishing report.
Well we thought we were all go for the season back in January – then lockdown hit after we’d just stocked 80 big doubles. This gave the fish a chance to settle in but boy oh boy when we reopened was there some sport to be had with many anglers hooking into some very big fish. Four rods became casualties to these big boys, but that just made the fishermen more determined to come back and land one of these monsters.
It’s been great to see a lot of new anglers including many on our ever popular courses.
In other news we now have a large new gazebo beside the lakes which you may shelter in if you wish, except on course days when it is required for the course candidates and coaches.
Now that things are settling down again we are planning to get back to more regular fishing reports.
Tight lines and happy casts, Leigh.
The lowdown
Water temperature and condition: 11.4c (avg); Clear with some weed growth
Rod average across all ticket types: 6.7
Most fish caught by an individual angler: We have had many anglers with catches of over 30 fish in a day plus many more in double figures.
Best fish: 21.7lb rainbow – a goliath of a fish!
Stocking details: We are currently stocking an average of 80 fish a week.
Catch returns: A new catch return card is now available to help us better track the catches. It also lists the fishery rules on the back including some revisions so do please familiarise yourself with these.
Top tactics and flies
A few weeks ago it was all buzzers that were taking the fish but with the change in weather to these lovely warm dry days the fish have really switched onto dries, with the two top flies being Shipmans buzzer and Yellow owls. In fact the smaller dries have been responsible for most of the doubles that have been caught with many fish in the 8-15lb range being caught a lot of PBs have been created this last few weeks.
