Welcome to the latest fishing report.
We hope this latest newsletter finds you all well. It’s fair to say it’s been a stormy start to the year. We’ve had some very challenging fishing days this last month, with plenty of very wet and windy days – the most difficult conditions for us as fly fishers. But it has not put off the diehard anglers and for those that persevered there have been some good catches.
Hopefully the weather will improve in next few weeks allowing those of you that for whatever reason can’t fish through the winter months to get out and wet a line. The snowdrops are in full bloom and the daffodils are starting to show their heads above ground, sure signs that spring is on its way.
We are looking forward to welcoming back the familiar faces to Kilnsey. It will be good to see you knocking the cobwebs off your tackle. Now is the time to be checking over your gear and making sure reels are in good order, your lines are clean and not damaged and you have plenty of tippet and so on – you don’t want to spoil your first day out by having faulty equipment.
Tight lines and happy casts, Leigh.
PS please note that whilst the main fishing report comes out monthly, we update the latest stats and flies (see ‘The Lowdown’ and ‘Top tactics and flies’ below) every two weeks.

Top tactics and flies
Updated 15 Feb 2022
Lures have been catching well during this period. The fish aren’t chasing, so it seems like a slow retrieve is the best technique and then just wait for a slow hard pull and you’re in. As always buzzers under an indicator fish well.
Top flies for this period: Apps worms in various colours, Snakes, Dawsons olive, Buzzers and chamois worms.

Fish welfare – A quick reminder to get the fish back in the water quickly if you are on catch and release and please “keep ’em wet” as we’ve lost a few bigger fish recently due them being out of the water for to long big fish can be quite fragile so please follow good fish handling practice.
